Davingy’s “Mini Pod” and “Cool Jazz” Selected for Central Coast Sculptors’ “Off the Wall” Exhibition at
Art Center Morro Bay
San Francisco, CA — Davingy Arts is proud to announce two sculptures by David I. McGraw aka Davingy, Mini Pod and Cool Jazz, have been selected to exhibit in Off the Wall, the annual juried sculpture exhibition presented by Central Coast Sculptors. The exhibition will be on view at Art Center Morro Bay, located at 835 Main Street in Morro Bay, California, from June 25 through August 3, 2026.
Off the Wall is the annual juried exhibition of Central Coast Sculptors, one of the region’s most respected sculpture collectives, presented in partnership with Art Center Morro Bay — one of the largest venues for exhibiting original fine art on the California Central Coast. The show is known for bringing together highly inventive, original work across a wide range of three-dimensional media, from welded steel and bronze to found objects and mixed media. Each edition is juried by a distinguished arts professional, and the 2026 show runs in conjunction with the Painters Group’s annual Brushstrokes exhibition, creating a vibrant, multi-disciplinary showcase in downtown Morro Bay.
“Central Coast Sculptors has built something special: a community that takes the craft seriously while keeping it accessible,” Davingy said. “Being included in Off the Wall means your work is in conversation with some genuinely exciting artists.”
Mini Pod is a freestanding sculpture composed of stacked geometric forms, three faceted, angular tiers that rise with a totem-like authority from a darkened base. Finished in a deep, saturated cobalt blue that catches and shifts with the light, the work’s glossy upper structure contrasts sharply with the raw, matte black of its foundation, suggesting a tension between the refined and the elemental. The segmentation gives the piece an almost architectural quality, evoking industrial components, vertebrae, or modular forms in assembly. The bold color and commanding verticality invite a more purely sculptural reading. The freestanding piece’s bold exterior belies a quietly industrial skeleton within. Mild steel and rebar form the structural core, their utilitarian origins transformed beneath a skin of fiberglass components that give the work its distinctive geometry.
Cool Jazz is a densely layered mixed-media sculpture that builds its presence through accumulation and contrast. A turbulent mass of reclaimed and fabricated materials, its surface is blackened, lacquered, and textured. Behind the body of the work, a clean, cobalt blue vertical fin rises with calm precision. Nestled within the composition are flashes of red and glimpses of a smooth, mask-like face partially submerged in the dark material surrounding it, giving the piece an unmistakably figurative undercurrent. The tension between the chaotic, heavily worked surfaces and the cool geometry of the ascending blue element gives Cool Jazz its rhythm: raw energy held in check by a single clear note.
To see the sculptures, visit Art Center Morro Bay, which is open daily from noon to 4 p.m. and is located at 835 Main Street, Morro Bay, California.
The selection of Mini Pod and Cool Jazz for Off the Wall marks another significant milestone for Davingy Arts in 2026. These are Davingy’s sixth and seventh gallery-accepted works of the year, following the selection of Argonaut for Union Hall Gallery’s The Art of Now: Pushing Boundaries in San Diego, Lone Bison for the Bothwell Arts Center’s America in Art exhibition at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, Fains Frazzled for the Coastal Arts League 2026 All Media Show in Half Moon Bay, Cool Jazz at Berkeley’s ACCI gallery, among others.
Known for transforming industrial materials and mechanical forms into emotionally resonant contemporary sculpture, Davingy’s work often combines bold structural compositions with vibrant finishes and reclaimed elements, creating art that feel simultaneously monumental and deeply personal.
