Purple and Blue Tripper

Davingy commissioned this piece for a friend but obstacles arose that delayed the install. It moved around a lot and then he finally relocated to the art park. Davingy pictured the children climbing on it so we reinforced the structure. This is one of his first pod pieces with some height and dynamic tension to it. A sense of balance comes from the plate piece in the middle made of sheet metal. It looks as though it’s preparing for take-off.

Purple & Blue Tripper is one of the first of Davingy’s “pod pieces” as it features a shape that the artist returns to again and again throughout his career.  The body of the sculpture is angled on two metal legs, with the fiberglass pods bookending an open triangular form. All mounted to a central axle and positioned at a steep angle, the sculpture is imbued with forward spinning momentum, as if poised to escape its mounting to road trip through the cosmos.
