Grande Yellow Octopoda features seven yellow styrofoam tubes the artist salvaged from the scrap yard affixed to a pole reaching over 25 feet into the sky. A cross between fanciful industrial equipment and a child’s toy, its commanding presence challenges the viewer to decipher the object’s function and meaning. The title of the sculpture, too, may frustrate the viewer attempting to rationalize this incomplete “octopus” with only seven of its eight eponymous appendages. Rejecting logic, this whimsical sculpture defies any representational interpretation.
