A horizontal skeleton of blue. Graveyard Shift is one of only a few horizontal works by the artist, presenting a skeletal form suspended in mid-transformation. Welded rebar twists into a chain of crystalline polyhedra, painted a deep, rich cobalt blue and hung from a nondescript metal chain. The open framework and aloft positioning makes the sculpture feel airy and light. Contradicting the dense material it is made of, this cloud-like skeleton sways and twists in the breeze offering an illusion of weightlessness. Davingy turns industrial materials into something both structural and spectral, a vertebrate ghost caught between geometry and bone.
